Our Band Conductor is Mro John David Zammit. Mro Zammit is a professional composer and conductor and a fully experienced song- writer, pianist and clarinettist. John is the holder of various musical qualifications, including Diplomas at Associate, Licentiate and Fellowship levels from British established conservatoires like the Royal schools of Music and the London College of Music. He was also awarded Fellowship Diplomas from the Victoria College of Music and the Guild of Musicians and singers in London.
His list of musical works includes various marches, classic music and songs of which three have been awarded first and second prizes. He is also known as an effective arranger, a field in which he produced a number of works ranging from rock operas to classical works.
Mro Zammit is also a senior music teacher in Government schools. He is also the organizer and conductor of the college band, where he serves also as music teacher. In April 2002 he was invited by the Austrian organization ‘Music 4 Dancing’ to compose a number of dance type works.
In 2010, following the retirement of his father Profs Charles E. Zammit, he was appointed as Conductor of the L-Unjoni Philharmonic Band. Through these years our symphonic band organised various high level concerts such as ‘Tristis Est Anima Mea’, in 2017, ‘Movies At The Palace’ in 2018 and ‘Movies in Concert’ in 2019. The latter concert attracted a full-house Mediterranean Conference Centre with an audience of 1,400 persons.
